NdFeB

Major Attributes:
· Highest energy in whole permanent magnet family, ranging from 26 to 48 MGOe.
· Very high resistance to demagnetization
· Easy for forming and processing
· Higher price than Low Energy Magnets (AlNiCo & Ceramics) but cheaper than SmCo
· Corrosive and should be coated in some applications
· Lower operating temperature than SmCo, < 200°C (390°F)

· Motors & generators
· Computer hard disc drives & CD-ROM drives

SmCo

Major Attributes:
· Higher energy than Low Energy Magnets (AlNiCo & Ceramics), ranging from 16 to 32 MGOe
· High resistance to demagnetization
· Best thermal resistance in High Energy Magnet family, operating temperatures up to 350°C (660°F)
· Most expensive permanent magnets

Typical Applications:
· Sensors
· Linear motors & actuators
· Computer hard disc drives
· Motors working in higher temporary environments
